BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Rosuvastatin is a prescription medicine that belongs to a group of cholesterol-lowering medicines called statins. Along with diet, Rosuvastatin lowers “bad” cholesterol (LDL-C), increases “good” cholesterol (HDL-C). Rosuvastatin works by reducing cholesterol in two ways: Rosuvastatin blocks an enzyme (HMG-CoA reductase) in the liver causing the liver to make less cholesterol, and Rosuvastatin increases the uptake and breakdown by the liver of cholesterol already in the blood. Rosuvastatin is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors.
