BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Lochol (Atorvastatin) is an oral drug that lowers the level of cholesterol in the blood. It belongs to a class of drug referred to as statins. Statins prevent the production of cholesterol in the liver by blocking HMG CoA-reductase, an enzyme that makes cholesterol. Atorvastatin reduces concentrations of LDL-cholesterol, which is believed to be the “bad” cholesterol and is primarily responsible for the development of coronary artery disease. Lochol also reduces the concentrations of Triglycerides, higher levels of which are also associated with coronary artery disease. It also raises the concentration of HDL (Good) cholesterol.
