Anti-Epileptics
INDICATIONS:
Spritam is indicated for adjunctive therapy for the treatment of:
- Myoclonic seizures in patients 12 years of age and older with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy
- Primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in patients 6 years of age and older with idiopathic generalized epilepsy.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
levetiracetam is believed to exert its antiepileptic effects primarily by binding to synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) in the brain, this binding is thought to modulate neurotransmitter release, thereby reducing neuronal hyperexcitability and preventing seizure activity.
Levetiracetam is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain.
